Memento No. 4: Fanfare for Amy (2026)
- Commissioned by Dr. Amy Acklin as a concert opener for the Louisville Youth Wind Symphony's second season.
Program Notes:
“Memento No. 4” adds to a growing list of pieces written for special occasions and for special people. These pieces range in size from solo works to large ensemble works such as this. The subtitle “Fanfare for Amy” warmly salutes Amy Acklin and the extraordinary work she has done for the musical communities of Louisville and beyond. Amy was one of the first people to acknowledge my compositional voice and has been a supportive figure and mentor for several years now – it is a pleasure to collaborate with her in this capacity.
The piece is a highly energetic, motivically concise, kaleidoscopic work that takes great care to give each section of the symphonic band a moment to shine. Its bright and spirited energy reflects Amy’s, and the fearless intensity of the students she will lead now and in the future.
