ABOUT THE PIECE

IMG_3495.HEIC

Tyler has taken a special interest in the saxophone as an instrument with exceptional expressive and technical capabilities. Several of his recent pieces explore the juxtaposition of lyric, vocal, and expressive writing with virtuosic and florid textures.

The piece will be 9-12 minutes in duration and will feature an ornate, vocal style inspired by the vocal decorations commonly used in popular styles of music from the late 90's and early 2000's. I interpret this inspiration as a free and at times indulgent approach to gesture and rhythm and with heavily decorated and emotionally charged lines. The result will be an abstract, somewhat nostalgic, emotive piece with plenty of opportunities to showcase depth of expression and technical prowess. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
